Up until 2023, many pundits felt Malone had a team that performed admirably from October to April and then just needed to finish the job in the playoffs in order to not, once again, miss out on the big one. The Denver Nuggets were considered one of the biggest teams in the league to have never tasted an NBA Championship. In Nikola Jokic, AKA The Joker, they have one of the best performers in the league, and the Serbian two-time NBA MVP winner is certainly a stand-out player for the Nuggets. In 2020-21 they lost to the eventual beaten NBA Finalists, the Phoenix Suns, and in 2021-22 they were defeated, in the first round of the playoffs, by eventual NBA champions Golden State Warriors. In 2019-20 they fought their way to the Conference Finals, losing out to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. Malone On a Missionĭuring Malone's reign, the team has shown consistent progression. Under current head coach Michael Malone, the Nuggets were once again able to dream of a long-awaited NBA Championship. They joined the NBA (National Basketball Association) in 1974 and changed their name to Denver Nuggets on account of there already being the Houston Rockets in the league. The team was originally founded as the Denver Larks but changed to the Rockets ahead of their move to the ABA (American Basketball Association) in 1967.
